I believe that any blood glucose meter would work.  Here are a couple of things to think about:

  1. The normal blood glucose range for cats is different than it is for humans.  For cats it it 72-175.  For humans it is 70-100.  If you use a meter for humans then it may well be alerting you that the blood-glucode level is too high when it’s really OK.  For that reason I recommend a meter that has been calibrated for cats.
  2. You want a meter that requires the smallest possible blood sample.  Wrestling with Teddy was no fun and he would not sit still for long.  I needed to get the job done quickly.

The vet recommended the AlphaTrak meter, specifically designed for pets.  It is the meter I used.
